Keith Conlon, an Irish man aged 36 and father of four, was shot in the back of the head on 22 February 2022 at Hazelgrove Farm, Kiltalown Lane, Tallaght, Dublin, during a confrontation with Diarmuid Phelan, a 56-year-old American senior counsel and law professor, after Phelan shot a dog with a rifle. Conlon died at Tallaght University Hospital two days later. Phelan was arrested at the scene, charged with murder, and pleaded not guilty. After a ten-week trial at the Central Criminal Court, a jury unanimously acquitted Phelan of murder on 3 January 2025, accepting his self-defence case.
