On the evening of 3 June 2015, three men from the same family attacked Michael Ward at his home in Rush, Dublin, using Stanley knives and a hatchet. The victim was hospitalised for 12 days and required surgery for an open fracture to the tibia. Michael Stokes (35), Richard Stokes (26) and Simon Stokes (28), all of Lucan, Dublin, were arrested after the attack and pleaded guilty to assault causing harm. In January 2022, Judge Martin Nolan at Dublin Circuit Court sentenced each man to two and a half years.
