  Michael Ward (26), of Sean O'Carroll Street, Ardee, was jailed for five and a half years at Dundalk Circuit Court over a night of assaults and robberies in Dundalk, County Louth, on June 29th (year not given). Ward knocked an 88-year-old Somali man to the ground and kicked and punched him, while his cousin, a co-accused who is not named, went through the man's pockets. The same night, a 16-year-old boy had his iPhone and neck chain stolen after a knife threat, and a third victim had his phone and cap taken on Philip Street. Judge Hayes imposed sentences totalling seven and a half years, with the final two suspended, and Ward must be supervised by the Probation Service for 12 months after release.

• Four men remanded over car and number plate thefts in Sligo Theft · Co. Sligo

  A Mitsubishi car was stolen outside a residential property at Stoneparks, Ballymote, Co Sligo, at 7.25am on Sunday 4 January, and two number plates were taken from two Volkswagen Passats in Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim, on 3 January. Eric Farrell, 21, Sean Farrell, 21, Keith Brady, 20, and Michael Ward, 26, were charged with the thefts and with possessing a Parkside cordless drill with intent to use it in a theft. Farrell was arrested on O'Connell Street, Ballymote, on Monday, and all four men were remanded in custody at Sligo District Court on 6 January to appear by video link on 8 January.
