  On 18 April 2023, a suspected explosion on the roof of Stryker's plant at Carrigtwohill, Co Cork, left John Murphy, a 41-year-old married father of two employed by contractor Apleona, with third-degree burns to 75 per cent of his body. He died on 9 June 2023 at St James's Hospital in Dublin. Following a Health and Safety Authority investigation, the DPP recommended criminal prosecution, and Stryker Ireland Ltd was summonsed to Midleton District Court on 22 October 2026 facing seven charges for alleged breaches of health and safety legislation. The DPP directed trial on indictment at Circuit Court level, and the case was adjourned to 3 December 2026 for preparation of a book of evidence.
