    A car carrying three teenagers plunged into the River Corrib at Menlo Pier in Galway city at approximately 2:40am on Saturday 11 February 2023. John Keenan, 16, a man and promising teenage boxer, was travelling with his 19-year-old cousin Christopher Stokes and their 17-year-old friend Wojciech Panek. All three died after being removed from the water and taken to University Hospital Galway. Gardaí are investigating the single-vehicle incident, with the scene preserved for technical examination and Forensic Collision Investigators examining the area. Gardaí are probing a U-turn on the pier in connection with the deaths.
