The state alleges John Andrew struck John Keenan across the head with a hatchet outside 5 Palace Crescent, Longford, on 3 June 2024. John Andrew and Margaret Doyle were jointly indicted with section three assault causing harm and producing an article capable of inflicting serious injury, namely a knife, and were returned for trial. The couple fled their home on 3 or 4 June and are now living in Portlaoise. At a recent Circuit Court hearing, Gardaí warned of escalating tensions if the couple returned to the estate, and the judge directed a housing transfer order without requiring reoccupation of the property. The application was adjourned to Mullingar Circuit Court.
