On 28 September 2021, gardaí were called to Toome, Ballymahon, Co Longford, after reports of a man allegedly attempting to walk out in front of oncoming traffic. Thomas Delaney, a 25-year-old man from Toome, was found highly intoxicated and abusive, and was restrained by locals and then with pepper spray. He repeatedly threatened to find a garda's home address and threatened the officer's family. Delaney pleaded guilty at Longford District Court in April 2022 to failing to comply with a garda's directions and to threatening and abusive behaviour in public, and was fined €250 for each charge.
