Thomas Delaney, 34, a man from Portlaoise, County Laois, admitted being intoxicated in Knockmay on August 25, 2022, and having no insurance at Clonroosk View on December 14, 2022. Judge Andrew Cody at Kilkenny District Court noted that Delaney, who had 34 previous convictions, committed the same no-insurance offence within three weeks of an earlier conviction. He was sentenced to six months in prison, disqualified from driving for 10 years, and fined €300 for the intoxication offence with a recognisance fixed in case of appeal. He was also remanded on a €35,000 Midlands drugs charge and appealed the decision shortly afterwards.

Thomas Delaney, a 33-year-old man, was intoxicated and shirtless when he shouted threatening words at Garda McCabe on Dublin Road, Portlaoise, at 1.55am on 25 September 2021. He told the female garda 'I'll smash your head in' and other abusive words while shouting at members of the public. Delaney, who had 23 previous public order convictions, was charged with intoxication and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour. Judge Catherine Staines sentenced him to two months in Midlands Prison at Portlaoise district court on 23 November 2021.
