latest first- Supreme Court remits Dublin murder case for new sentence Murder · Co. Dublin
A 14-year-old boy stabbed Urantsetseg Tserendorj, a 49-year-old Mongolian woman, in the neck on 20 January 2021 on a walkway at the IFSC, Dublin, while attempting to rob her as she walked home from work. She died nine days later at Mater Hospital. The boy was found guilty of murder by a majority jury verdict at a retrial in November 2022 after the first jury in April 2022 failed to agree, and was sentenced to life in detention with a review after 13 years in February 2023. His appeals against conviction and sentence were rejected by the Court of Appeal in late 2023. In March 2025, the Supreme Court ruled that the practice of reviewing children's sentences is unconstitutional and remitted the case to the Court of Appeal for a new sentence.
