Two men were each charged with assault causing harm after allegedly assaulting each other at EJ Morrissey's pub in Market Square, Portlaoise, on June 18, 2023. Finbar O'Rourke, a 50-year-old man from Portlaoise, and Shane O'Connor, a 24-year-old man from Portarlington, appeared before Portlaoise District Court in September 2024, where disclosure including CCTV footage was granted and the case was adjourned to November 18. In February 2025, Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby told the court that, on the directions of the Inspector, the charges against both men were withdrawn.
