  Richard O'Leary, 36, sustained a traumatic brain injury after being punched in the face, pushed twice, and punched in the head while on the ground during an assault on TF Meagher Street in Dungarvan, Co Waterford, in the early hours of 18 March 2018. He was taken to South Tipperary General Hospital and then transferred to Cork University Hospital, where he underwent a decompressive craniotomy, and died on 23 March 2018 from a sudden cardiac arrest. A man in his twenties was arrested and pleaded guilty to manslaughter, but accidentally drowned before he could be sentenced. An inquest at Cork Coroner's Court in January 2023 recorded a narrative verdict, with the Coroner noting that a verdict of unlawful killing was not open to the jury because the assailant could not be identified.
