On 6 and 15 March 2023, while on temporary release from a life sentence, Richard Kearney (42) falsely imprisoned his former prison chaplain, forced his way into an 86-year-old woman's home in Clondalkin, robbed and assaulted her, and attacked two priests. Gardaí identified Kearney from doorbell footage and found him in a garden shed at his home address. He pleaded guilty to 10 counts, and on 30 January 2024 Judge Martin Nolan at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court imposed an eight-year sentence backdated to March 2023.
