He denied the theft. At a contested bail hearing at Tullamore District Court on 6 December 2025, a garda objected to bail, but the judge granted it with conditions: he must sign on at a Garda station three days a week and stay away from the Boots outlet. The case resumes at Tullamore District Court on Wednesday.

Radu Floricel, a 40-year-old man, was charged with assaulting Larry Dowling and Keith Cunningham, criminal damage to an ambulance and a cell, resisting arrest, intoxication, and threatening behaviour in Tullamore, County Offaly, in incidents on June 6, 2021 and December 31, 2019. He was also wrongly arrested for the murder of a school teacher in Tullamore, spending three days in custody. At Tullamore District Court, his solicitor highlighted his post traumatic stress disorder and good employment, while the judge noted 15 prior convictions. Judge Cody imposed a 12-month sentence suspended for two years.

Ashling Murphy, a 23-year-old schoolteacher, was fatally assaulted at about 4pm on Wednesday 12 January 2022 on the bank of the Grand Canal at Cappincur, Tullamore, County Offaly, and gardaí believed it was a random attack. A man in his 40s, described as a Romanian national, was arrested that day and released without charge on the Thursday evening after a possible mistake in identification, and Radu Floricel, 39, the brother of Neara Tanase, was also arrested at the same residence and later eliminated from enquiries. Neara Tanase, 27, was charged with failing to comply with a Garda direction to leave a designated crime scene at her Tullamore home on 12 January 2022, and appeared at Portlaoise District Court on 13 January, where she was remanded with bail conditions. At Tullamore District Court on 19 January she pleaded not guilty, and the prosecution was adjourned to 6 April 2022.

Ashling Murphy, a 23-year-old primary school teacher (some reports say 22), was fatally assaulted while jogging along the Grand Canal at Cappincur, Tullamore, Co Offaly, on 12 January 2022. Jozef Puska, a Slovakian national whose age is reported variously as 31 to 35, was arrested on 18 January 2022 and charged with her murder the next day. He was sent forward for trial in April 2022, and a jury at the Central Criminal Court found him guilty of murder on 9 November 2023, with a mandatory life sentence imposed on 17 November 2023. He abandoned his conviction appeal on 10 July 2026, and on 16 July 2026 the Court of Appeal refused to backdate his sentence earlier than the November 2023 verdict.
