Three men, Peter O'Donnell (52), Paul Baynham (37) and Niall Deegan (51), serving in the Limerick Roads Policing Unit, were charged in September 2024 with 33 counts of communicating with other gardaí to pervert the course of public justice in connection with the alleged squaring away of fixed charge penalty notices between 2017 and 2019. The three had been suspended from the force since 2020 following a GNBCI investigation, and were arrested at Mayorstone Garda Station before appearing at Limerick District Court. Their trials at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court were delayed due to budgetary overruns, and on 25 March 2026 the State entered a nolle prosequi, formally dropping all 33 charges. The three men have since launched High Court proceedings against the Garda Commissioner, the Minister for Justice and the State to recover compensation.
