On 16 February 2025 a grenade was thrown in the underground carpark of the IBIS hotel in Clondalkin, Dublin, in the direction of a man who had come to investigate an earlier disturbance. Patrick O'Brien, a teenager, was identified through CCTV and the registration of the car he was driving, and later went to Clondalkin Garda Station and made full admissions. He pleaded guilty to possession of the grenade, and in October 2025 the judge asked whether to imprison him 'for stupidity' before revoking his bail. The latest development is that he was remanded in custody for sentence on Friday.
