On 16 November 2024 at around 2.15pm, during a dispute between neighbours over the cutting of a hedge in Limerick, the victim alleged that Michael Ryan, aged 63, struck him across the left cheek while he was cutting a hedge on his own land. Ryan was charged with assault causing harm. He denied punching his neighbour when questioned by gardaí and told Newcastle West District Court that he never touched the victim, but the judge found in favour of the victim's evidence. Ryan was convicted and fined €400 with 12 months to pay, and released on his own bond of €100, as reported in February 2026.
