In October 2021, Michael Mongan, 27, of Camillaun Park, Newcastle, gestured a large knife across his throat while appearing about to assault a Garda at Camillaun Park. He said that is what Gardaí will get if they come in there. Mongan pleaded guilty to producing a large knife at Galway District Court in December 2022. He was sent to Galway Circuit Court for sentencing, and free legal aid was awarded for a solicitor and one junior counsel.
