On January 27, 2023, Michael Hogan, a 66-year-old man, tapped on the window of a stopped car driven by a woman on Bateman Quay in Kilkenny City, said he was a member of An Garda Síochána, and then followed her after she drove off. The woman reported the incident at a garda station. In July 2023 Hogan admitted the offence at Kilkenny District Court, where the case was adjourned for a probation report and he was remanded on bail to October 17.
