latest first- Man jailed for 11 years over manslaughter in Kilkenny caravan fire Manslaughter · Co. Kilkenny
In the early hours of 24 July 2006, Martin Kelly, then 19, set fire to the mobile home of 44-year-old Gerry Nolan at Deerpark, Castlecomer, Co Kilkenny, killing him. Gardaí began a cold case review in 2015, and Kelly was charged with murder in 2020. At the Central Criminal Court in March 2022, Kelly pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter. On 27 June 2022, Mr Justice Paul McDermott sentenced Kelly to 12 years and six months with 18 months suspended, backdated to 2 November 2021.
