On 3 June 2024, John Ryan (34), of Heather Grove, Dooradoyle, Limerick, pleaded guilty to harassing a woman. On 10 August 2024 he broke into her home in County Limerick armed with chisels, set fire to her apartment as she fled, and was in breach of bail for harassing her at the time. Judge Simon McAleese at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court cut a headline sentence of 15 years to 12 for the guilty plea, then jailed Ryan for ten years backdated to 10 August 2024, with a concurrent harassment term and an order that he never communicate with the victim again. The sentence was first reported on 12 March 2026 and was most recently reported on 23 March 2026.
