  Gary Molloy, 32, pleaded guilty to stealing a naggin of gin from Dunnes Stores in Athlone on 11 April 2022 after a security guard spotted him pocket the drink while he paid for eight cans of beer. The man, who had 87 previous convictions including a theft at Longford District Court seven days earlier, was described as having been homeless and estranged from his family. Judge Bernadette Owens deferred passing judgment pending evidence of his attendance at the Cuain Mhuire addiction treatment facility. The case was adjourned to 4 May 2022, with a bail condition requiring him to stay away from the store.
