    Two people were sentenced at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 5 November 2025 for their roles as money mules in a romance fraud against a 90-year-old man. The victim, who met a woman claiming to be a divorced mother on Match.com in June 2020, was persuaded to pay €2,800 into the AIB account of man David O'Brien, 26, of Emly, Co Tipperary, and €24,516.13 into the Bank of Ireland account of woman Elisabeth Bello, 50, of Finglas, Dublin. O'Brien also helped disperse some of €40,000 stolen from an 80-year-old woman through invoice redirection fraud. Both pleaded guilty to handling or processing the proceeds of crime and received suspended sentences: Bello two years and O'Brien one year, both on condition they keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
