  • Louth man jailed over selling US-bought firearms to Irish criminal gangs Participating in a criminal organisation's firearms importation; firearms possession · Co. Louth

Conor O'Brien, a 29-year-old man from Kilpatrick, Ardee, Co Louth, who holds US citizenship, used it to buy military-grade firearms and ammunition legally in Nevada and smuggled them into Ireland in component parts for sale to criminal gangs between 10 February 2023 and 19 July 2024. On 19 July 2024 gardaí raided a shed he rented at Blackstick, Ardee, Co Louth, found an arsenal of firearms and ammunition, and arrested both men. O'Brien was arraigned on six charges in November 2025 and pleaded guilty to all six. On 16 March 2026 the Special Criminal Court sentenced him to 11 years with the final year suspended, though some sources report he was jailed for ten years, and ordered the firearms and ammunition forfeited and destroyed. The latest development is that further submissions on cash seized by gardaí were due the following week.
