  • Boy B withdraws murder appeal in Ana Kriegel case Murder; aggravated sexual assault · Co. Dublin

    Fourteen-year-old Ana Kriégel, a woman, was lured to a derelict house in St Catherine's Park, Lucan, Dublin, on 1 May 2018, where 13-year-old Boy A beat and sexually assaulted her and she was strangled with builder's tape provided by 13-year-old Boy B. A Central Criminal Court jury convicted both boys of murder in June 2019, and Boy A was also convicted of aggravated sexual assault. Boy A was sentenced to life imprisonment with a 12-year review and eight years for the sexual assault, while Boy B received 15 years' detention with an eight-year review. The Court of Appeal refused Boy B's application to introduce fresh evidence in July 2022, and he withdrew his appeal on 5 October 2022.

  • Boy B seeks fresh evidence in Dublin murder appeal Murder · Co. Dublin

    In May 2018, two 13-year-old boys, Boy A and Boy B, murdered 14-year-old Ana Kriegel in Dublin after Boy B lured her from her home. A Central Criminal Court jury unanimously found both guilty of murder in June 2019. Boy B was sentenced to 15 years detention with a review after eight years, while Boy A received life imprisonment with a review after 12 years plus eight years for aggravated sexual assault. At a Court of Appeal hearing on 11 March 2022, Boy B's defence sought to introduce fresh evidence and enlarge the grounds of his conviction-only appeal, with the substantive hearing listed for 17 June 2022. Boy A has not lodged an appeal.
