Anthony Quigley, a 51-year-old convicted sex offender from Mitchelstown, Co Cork, was released from Midlands Prison in Portlaoise on 17 September 2025. Gardaí said that within hours he sent a lewd Snapchat message to a 16-year-old schoolgirl, and that between 10 and 15 February 2025 he sent a 16-year-old autistic boy sexual material on WhatsApp. He was detained for questioning. At Cork Circuit Criminal Court on 26 February 2026, his barrister said he had made full admissions, and Judge Sinead Behan refused bail and remanded him in custody for sentencing on 28 April 2026, after ordering updated psychiatric and probation reports.

Anthony Quigley, 51, was sentenced to nine months in jail in February 2025 after pleading guilty to offensive conduct of a sexual nature and breach of sex offenders register conditions. On March 15, 2024, he approached a 63-year-old woman on Upper Cork St in Mitchelstown, Co Cork, put his arm around her neck, and asked if she wanted to have sex with him. On November 12, 2024, he was stopped by gardaí on Oliver Plunkett St in Cork City and failed to give a proper name and address as required under the Sex Offenders (Amendment) Act 2023. Judge Sheehan noted Quigley had 66 previous convictions and a history of sexual offences dating to the early 2000s, and did not appear to realise the seriousness of his offending. All three sentences of nine months were ordered to run concurrently.
