Sharon Whelan, 30, and her daughters Zarah, 7, and Nadia, 2, were murdered at their home in Windgap, Co Kilkenny, on Christmas Day 2008. Postman Brian Hennessy broke into the house, raped and strangled Sharon, then set a fire that killed the two children. Hennessy was convicted of triple murder in 2009 and sentenced to three concurrent life sentences. He was denied parole at a hearing in March 2024 and is due for another parole hearing around March 2026. He is in his 15th year at Arbour Hill, Dublin.

Brian Hennessy raped and strangled Sharon Whelan, 30, then set their home on fire in Windgap, Co Kilkenny, killing her two daughters Zarah, 7, and Nadia, 2, on Christmas Day 2008. He was convicted of the triple murder. His latest bid for parole was denied, as reported in June 2024, and he can reapply in 2026. Sharon Whelan's family said they were relieved by the decision.
