  On 17 November 2023, Zakariye Ali, a 27-year-old man, was accused of assaulting a Luas security officer at the tram stop on Lower Abbey Street in Dublin after the officer asked to check his ticket, and the officer needed stitches inside his mouth. On 13 January 2024, Mr Ali was accused of threatening to kill the same officer at the same location. He was charged with both offences and appeared at Dublin District Court on 2 September 2025, where Judge Michele Finan accepted jurisdiction so the case will not go to the Circuit Court. He was given eight weeks to consider his plea and ordered to return to court in November to enter it, and no plea has yet been entered.
