Sean McCormack, 20, of Legan, Co Longford, struck Zac Martin, 20, in the back of the head on Main Street, Ballymahon, in the early hours of 13 November 2021, causing a fractured skull and traumatic brain injury. McCormack was arrested the same day, charged with Section 4 assault, and remanded on bail at Longford District Court in November 2021. He pleaded guilty at Longford Circuit Court in October 2022, and the case was adjourned for a probation report. In July 2023, McCormack was sentenced at Mullingar Circuit Criminal Court to 12 months in prison and ordered to pay Martin €30,000 in compensation.
