  Yves Sakila, a 35-year-old Congolese man, was restrained face down by up to five security guards on Henry Street, Dublin, after being suspected of shoplifting at Arnotts, and was later pronounced dead at Mater Hospital. The incident occurred shortly after 5pm on Friday 15 May 2026, during which Sakila also knocked a man in his 80s to the ground, leaving the pensioner with non-life-threatening injuries. An investigation is being led by Store Street Garda Station with a separate Fiosrú probe into garda interactions; the post-mortem was completed but results are inconclusive pending a toxicology report, and the family has commissioned an independent UK postmortem. No one has been arrested or charged, and as of October 2026 Gardaí are seeking a female witness while security personnel are to be interviewed as witnesses.
