• Longford assault and knife case to Circuit Court after jurisdiction refused Assault · Co. Longford

On 2 July 2023, a violent row broke out at Richmond Court direct provision centre in Longford town, in which a man was lacerated by a knife and a security guard received lacerations to his left arm while trying to separate the parties. Youssef Azeddou, a 26-year-old man, was arrested and charged with two section 3 assaults and possession of a knife, with further charges of affray and production of a knife later added. He failed to appear at Longford District Court in May 2024 and was remanded in his absence. Judge Fiona Brennan subsequently refused jurisdiction, sending the case to the Circuit Court.
