Yan Diao, a 44-year-old taxi driver from Castletroy, was observed by a senior member of the Roads Policing Unit following another car through a red traffic light in Limerick City on 26 December 2025. He contested the charge before Judge Patricia Harney at Limerick District Court, representing himself and maintaining he had followed a car through amber lights. The judge preferred the Garda's evidence and convicted him, fining him €150 with three months to pay and fixing recognisance in the event of an appeal.
