Former carer Precious Moyo, a 38-year-old Zimbabwean woman, and Yamen Alhamada, a 20-year-old man from Syria, carried out a series of violent burglaries at the homes of six vulnerable pensioners in Athlone, Co Westmeath, between 14 June and 8 September 2023, stealing €34,000. Moyo had worked for a home help agency serving the victims, giving her knowledge of their households. The pair pleaded guilty to burglary and aggravated burglary offences. On 26 November 2024, Moyo was sentenced to eight years' imprisonment and Alhamada to six years at Mullingar Circuit Criminal Court, with the judge ordering €35,000 from an unrelated prosecution to be divided among the victims.
