Xiu Lan Hotels Ltd., operator of the Fota Island Resort in Co Cork, was convicted at Midleton District Court on 27 May 2024 of operating a courtesy car whose driver did not hold a small public service vehicle licence. The National Transport Authority brought the prosecution under Section 46 of the Taxi Regulation Act 2013 over a car stopped at Killahora, Glounthane, and the incident date is not stated. Judge Colm Roberts fined the company €500 and ordered it to pay a €1,000 contribution towards prosecution legal fees. The latest development is that a €1,000 recognizance for an appeal was fixed on the company's own bond, and the judge said the legality of hotel courtesy cars may ultimately have to be addressed in the High Court.
