latest first- Two teens sentenced to probation for racist assault at Castleknock Assault (racist attack)
Xeudan Xiong, a 50-year-old Chinese woman, was pushed into the Royal Canal at the 12th Lock in Castleknock, Dublin 15, on the evening of 14 August 2020 after being subjected to racial taunts by a group of youths. Gardaí opened an investigation after video of the incident went viral on TikTok, and two boys, aged 14 at the time, were charged with assault. They were found guilty by Judge Paul Kelly at Dublin Children's Court in September 2022, and a third boy who filmed the incident had his charge dismissed. The first co-defendant received a 12-month probation order in December 2022, and the second teen was sentenced to a nine-month probation bond in April 2023.
