A Dublin family from Lucan made false personal injury claims for road traffic accidents and falls using false names between 2010 and 2016. Patrick Lawrence, 54, his wife Eileen Lawrence, 52, and their sons Thomas Lawrence, 24, and John Lawrence, 26, were charged with 60 offences of deception and attempted deception. The case came to light after an insurance company hired a private investigator who photographed the family attending medical appointments under false names. At the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in March 2025, Patrick Lawrence was jailed for two years, Thomas and John Lawrence each received one-year suspended sentences, and Eileen Lawrence's sentencing was deferred. Grandmother Winnifred Lawrence, 74, was jailed in 2024 for three and a half years for similar claims.

Winnifred Lawrence, a 74-year-old woman from Clondalkin, Dublin, made six false personal injury insurance claims between September 2012 and May 2014, using her own name and the false name Margaret Mongan, alleging trips and slips in various locations. IPB Insurance flagged the claims to the Garda Economic Crime Bureau, and Lawrence's home and a solicitor's premises were searched under warrant in 2019, when she was also arrested and interviewed four times, denying the allegations. She pleaded guilty to three counts of fraud and was sentenced on 16 May 2024 by Judge Pauline Codd to three-and-a-half years in prison, with the final 18 months suspended. The court noted she had received €28,310 in compensation on the three successful claims and had three previous convictions, including a similar offence.
