On 3 September 2024 gardaí searched the home of Willie Woodland (31) at Shanabooly Road, Ballynanty, Limerick, and seized a submachine gun, ammunition, suspected cocaine and cannabis, cash and drug paraphernalia. Woodland was arrested at the scene and charged with possessing the submachine gun and ammunition for an unlawful purpose, and he appeared before Limerick District Court on 5 September 2024 and was remanded in custody. He later pleaded guilty to the firearms and drugs charges and to assaulting and robbing his ex-girlfriend, a woman, in 2023. He was jailed for 13 years with the final 18 months suspended, a sentence reported on 11 November 2025.
