A man in his 20s was allegedly assaulted by Sgt William Doyle, 52, in the AFIS room at Waterford Garda Station on 9 March 2022, after the man had been arrested that morning on suspicion of assault. The case was prosecuted by the DPP following a GSOC investigation, and Doyle was also charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice by instructing a subordinate to falsify a custody record. At Waterford District Court, Judge John O'Leary found Doyle guilty of both charges on 5 July 2024. He was sentenced to 80 hours of community service in lieu of a four-month prison term and now faces dismissal from An Garda Síochána.

On 30 January 2021, a garda observed an upset woman with a man shouting at her on Main Street in Portlaoise. William Doyle, a 51-year-old man from Co Down, refused to give his details to gardaí and raised his fists towards one of them. He was charged with being intoxicated in a public place and threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour. He flew in from the UK and admitted the charges before Judge John King, who convicted him and fined him €300 in March 2022.
