latest first- High Court finds €1m in proceeds of crime assets in Dublin Proceeds of crime · Co. Dublin
The Criminal Assets Bureau sought to seize approximately €1.7 million in assets, including a property in Garristown, lands in Rush, a house on Deanstown Road in Finglas, vehicles, watches and jewellery, from Ross Browning, a 37-year-old Irish man described as a senior member of the Kinahan organised crime gang. The assets were seized in a 2018 raid, and CAB brought proceedings under the 1996 Proceeds of Crime Act, with family members including his mother Julie Conway and cousin Ian O'Haire contesting some claims. The High Court hearing before Justice Alexander Owens opened on 20 October 2022, and the judge reserved his judgment after hearing submissions from both sides. On 15 February 2023, the court ruled that more than €1 million of the assets were obtained with the proceeds of crime, directing limited payments to family members for their contributions.
