  • High Court quashes DKIT expulsions over student altercations Assault (violent altercations) · Co. Louth

    Three women students, Margaret Eyong Taku, Wendy Briggs and Christina Igweze, were expelled from Dundalk Institute of Technology in Louth following four alleged violent altercations between them on January 30 and 31, 2024, three on campus and one off campus. The altercations allegedly involved Ms Briggs having her head stepped on, a wet floor warning sign being used, weaved hair being pulled out, and a chair being kicked in a canteen. A college disciplinary committee recommended expulsion in February 2024 and an appeals committee rejected all three appeals in April 2024. In July 2024, Ms Justice Niamh Hyland granted the three students permission to bring High Court challenges on an ex parte basis. In April 2025, the High Court quashed the expulsions and remitted the cases to a new appeals committee.
