Cases
latest first- Man arrested over prison row at Mountjoy Prison, Dublin Public order offence (prison melee) · Co. Dublin
On 10 July 2023, a melee involving makeshift blades in the B wing protective custody unit of Mountjoy Prison, Dublin, left one prisoner with a slash wound to his neck requiring around 20 stitches and four prison staff with less serious slash wounds. The injured prisoner is Wayne Dundon, 45, a Limerick crime boss serving a life sentence for the 2009 murder of Roy Collins, who is suspected of involvement in the attack after allegedly being tipped off that an attempt would be made on his life. In September 2023, Gardaí arrested a man under a Section 42 warrant in connection with the incident; he was detained at a Garda station in Dublin and released back to prison. Dundon was subsequently moved to the maximum security Portlaoise Prison, and detectives plan to speak to him as the investigation continues.
