Walter de Silva Fernandes, a 61-year-old Brazilian man, was stopped by Garda Finbarr Leahy on 7 May 2024 on the R402 at Killonean, Daingean, County Offaly, while driving with no insurance and an NCT that was 12 months out of date. He could not produce his insurance document when Garda Leahy asked for it, and his car was seized that day. He was later fined €700 and disqualified from driving for two years for having no insurance, and fined €200 for having no NCT, at Tullamore District Court. Offaly Live reported the sentence on 8 and 12 November 2024.
