  On 12 August 2024, a man in his 40s was assaulted with a large filleting knife on Marlborough Street in Dublin 1, near where thousands had gathered to celebrate the homecoming of Irish Olympians, and was taken to Mater Misericordiae University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Viron Hykaj, 39, of Parnell Street, Dublin 1, was arrested and charged with assault causing harm and production of a large filleting knife as a weapon, and a second man in his 40s was also arrested in connection with the assault. Hykaj appeared before Judge Cephas Power at Dublin District Court on 13 August 2024, made no reply to the charge, and was released on €400 bail with strict conditions including no contact with the injured party and staying away from Marlborough Street. He was ordered to appear again on 24 September 2024 for the DPP's directions.
