    Virgil Valea, an 18-year-old man of Carlow, was charged over a series of thefts. On 10 April 2025 he allegedly placed three bottles of wine worth €43.13 in his backpack at O'Brien's Fine Wines in Carlow and left without paying. Between 12 and 14 May 2025 he allegedly entered Eurogiant on three occasions and left without paying for items valued at €159 in total. He made admissions in interview with gardaí, was arrested on 31 May 2025 and taken to Carlow Garda Station. On 15 August 2025, Kilkenny District Court reported that he had been convicted on all charges and given two weeks in prison on one theft conviction.
