  Victoria Harty, 35, a mother of seven from Askeaton, pleaded guilty at Limerick District Court to dangerous driving, seven shoplifting charges, and various road traffic offences. On 18 June 2024, she was stopped at a Garda checkpoint at Creeves Cross, Askeaton, and while garda Errol Flynn was speaking to her at the car window, she accelerated away, dragging him along the road for a short distance. She stole goods worth €1,222 from shops in Limerick city, Askeaton, and Newcastle West. She was sentenced to three months' imprisonment for the dangerous driving offence and 11 weeks and one day for the thefts, all to run consecutively, and was disqualified from driving for ten years. Leave to appeal the severity of the sentences was granted.
