    A car was stopped at a speed checkpoint on the N5 Strokestown Road, Longford, on 18 March 2022, after being detected doing 132 km/h in a 100 kph zone. Vasile Muntean, 27, a man from Edgeworthstown, was charged with drink driving, no insurance, and no driving licence. He told Garda Paul Stewart that the driver had run away, claiming his cousin had been driving and moved to the back seat. Garda Stewart said it was not possible for a person to have exited the vehicle, as he was only three to four metres away. The case was adjourned at Longford District Court to 3 January 2023 for the defence to review patrol car footage.
