latest first- Man sentenced to 13 years for manslaughter in Dublin Manslaughter (knife attack) · Co. Dublin
Valerijs Leitons, 25, a Latvian man, stabbed Skaidrite Valdgeima, 34, a Latvian woman, over 50 times at the Binary Hub aparthotel on Bonham Street, Dublin 8, on 26 June 2019. The couple had met at a concert in May 2019, and Leitons, who had paranoid schizophrenia, had stopped taking his medication before the attack. He pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, but in October 2021 a jury at the Central Criminal Court rejected the plea and found him guilty of manslaughter on diminished responsibility by a 10-to-2 majority. On 18 January 2022, Justice Paul Burns sentenced him to 13 years in prison with the final year suspended for five years, backdated to 27 June 2019.
