    Ulises Mendez, a 30-year-old American man, and Ricky Adame, a 27-year-old American man, were arrested after cannabis was found in their luggage at Dublin Airport in January 2026. Mendez, a US security guard who owed a $3,000 debt, transported 14.4kg of cannabis with an estimated street value of €242,516 into Ireland on a Sunday flight from San Diego via Chicago. Both men were charged with possession of controlled drugs for sale or supply, and Mendez pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Judge Martin Nolan sentenced Mendez to five years' imprisonment, backdated to his January remand, while Adame was granted bail of €5,000 with a €3,000 deposit.
