On 9 June 2024, Troy Spratt, a 32-year-old man, grabbed Sinead Singleton by the throat and slammed her against a wall at her home in Darndale, Dublin 17, after wrongly believing she was harbouring a sex offender. He then smashed her car with a hatchet and jumped on the roof, and it took three gardaí to arrest him. Spratt pleaded guilty to assault causing harm at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Judge Ronan Munroe set a headline sentence of three years, reduced to two and a half years and suspended for five years, with conditions including a €4,000 payment to the victim and urine analysis.
