He was convicted of assault and handed a three-month fully suspended sentence in January 2026. Garda management issued a notice of dismissal on 6 May 2026, arguing it was necessary to maintain public confidence. The High Court granted a stay on the dismissal on 22 May 2026, with proceedings stayed until 14 July.
