• Tomas Gallagher jailed for four years for sexually assaulting five women at Lough Derg Sexual assault · Co. Donegal

In 2022 Tomas Gallagher, 42, of Rathanlacky, Dunkineely, Co Donegal, a maintenance man at St Patrick's Purgatory on Lough Derg, asked five women to help repair washing machines and tumble dryers and then sexually assaulted them. He was charged with seven offences: four counts of sexual assault on adults, two on children, and one of attempting to invite a child to sexually touch. After initially denying wrongdoing in three Garda interviews, he later pleaded guilty, though reports differ on whether the plea was entered in December 2024 at Donegal Circuit Court or in May 2025 at Letterkenny Circuit Court. On 4 June 2025 Judge John Aylmer sentenced him at Letterkenny Circuit Court to five years with the last 12 months suspended, meaning four years in prison, with 12 months under probation supervision.
